Abstract

Abstract:
The Hero program is one of the few virtual scientific interventions that demonstrated empirical evidence to favor the positive psychosocial development of adolescents. The present study aimed to evaluate its efficacy in a context never explored before, such as Mexican adolescents. The objectives of this work were to determine if the Hero program was effective in increasing prosociality, empathy, positive emotions and forgiveness in Mexican adolescents. A sample of 241 participants of both gender was constituted (50.2% were women and 49.8% were men). All the participants were high school students between ages of 12 and 15. The adolescents belonged to two secondary schools in Mexico. The results showed that the program was effective in promoting prosocial behavior towards strangers, empathy (in its cognitive and emotional dimension), positive emotions and forgiveness. These findings indicate that the combination of Psychology and technology, through the development of systems and applications, can contribute to adolescents developing their potential.
