NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE IN PEOPLE WITH ACHONDROPLASIA: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF THE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE
Abstract
The objective of the present work was to synthesize the evidence on the neuropsychological profile of people with achondroplasia. The search process was carried out using the following databases: PubMed, PsycINFO, Redalyc, and Scielo; employing a selection of keywords (in English and Spanish), with the inclusion criteria: the works had no publication date limit; they had to be written in English or Spanish; they had to be published in scientific journals; they had to consist of clinical studies with people with achondroplasia; they had to include at least one neuropsychological variable and adapt or not the tests based on the physical characteristics of this population. 10 articles were identified. The results show that the most used instrument was the Wechsler Intelligence Scale, with the evaluation of the intellectual level being the variable most frequently reported. No adaptations of the instruments were registered in the reviewed articles. Addressing knowledge on this topic will allow the development of assessment and treatment strategies that are increasingly adjusted to the characteristics of this population.
