Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the current panorama of alcohol consumption in Peru, assess its impact on public health, and identify effective prevention and treatment strategies. The methodology was descriptive, analytical, and exploratory, utilizing documentary and statistical analysis of secondary sources.
Among the main conclusions, it was observed that alcohol consumption continues to present high rates compared to other drugs and exhibits a different pattern compared to previous decades. Consumption has increased more among adolescents and in the female population, associated with violent behaviors, and has become one of the major mental health issues. Peruvian state strategies and private offerings have increased to meet the demands related to alcohol use; however, significant gaps remain in addressing this problem. This challenges the state, various social actors, and academia to train addiction specialists to develop specialized and validated programs for the prevention and intervention of alcohol use and abuse. Furthermore, it is crucial to systematize experiences with the aim of validating intervention programs, contributing with scientific and evidence-based strategies.
