En la actualidad existen resultados contradictorios respecto a la asociación entre la capacidad de procesamiento numérico y el desempeño en matemáticas en niños. La comprensión de dicho vÃnculo es relevante para el diseño de instrumentos de screening e intervención en niños con potenciales dificultades en el aprendizaje de las matemáticas. Objetivo: el objetivo de este trabajo fue realizar una revisión de la literatura que esclarezca los resultados contradictorios entre estudios. Método: se realizó una búsqueda sistemática en las bases de EBSCO y PubMed utilizando diferentes combinaciones de los términos en español y en inglés: procesamiento numérico (nu-merical processing), matemática (mathematics), desempeño académico (academic achievement), niños (children) Resultados: la revisión realizada indica que el mapeo entre los sistemas de procesamiento numérico simbólicos y no simbólicos predice el desempeño matemático en niños. Conclusiones: se señalan algunos aspectos metodológicos que deberÃan ser considerados en futuras investigaciones.

Abstract
At the present time, there are contradictory results about the relationship between numerical processing and children’s math achievement. Main goal: The aim of this article was made a scientific review to analyse the results of scientific research during the last decade about the relationship between non-symbolic numerical processing and children’s math performance. Method: we made a search at EBSCO and PubMed datasets using a combination of the key words: procesamiento numérico (numerical processing), matemática (mathematics), desempeño académico (academic achievement), niños (children). Results: The results showed that adequate mapping between symbolic and non-symbolic system predict math performance. Conclusion: We conclude pointing out some methodological issues necessary for future research.

A compreensão do dito vÃnculo é relevante para o desenho de instrumentos de screening e intervenção em crianças com potenciais dificuldades na aprendizagem da matemática. Objetivo: o objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar uma revisão de literatura que esclareça os resultados contraditórios entre estudos. Conclusões: apresentam-se alguns aspectos metodológicos que deveriam ser considerados em futuras investigações.
