Abstract

La lectura es considerada un signo de alfabetización y la puerta de entrada a la educación (Sotelo, et al., 2012). En el Perú, así como muchos países latinoamericanos y del Caribe, existen graves problemas al respecto, siendo ya conocidos los últimos lugares que ocupan nuestros estudiantes en las evaluaciones internacionales de lectura. En una comunicación anterior, Canales (2004) se pregunta ¿qué hay detrás de los bajísimos rendimientos en lenguaje y comunicación integral de los niños peruanos?, ¿por qué un niño peruano que ha asistido tres o cuatro años a la escuela no está en condiciones de poder leer bien un texto, es decir, decodificar y comprender dicho texto?, ¿cuál es la importancia del desarrollo lingüístico oral para el aprendizaje de la lectoescritura?, ¿qué procesos cognitivos y/o psicolingüísticos intervienen en la lectura?
